The British pork industry reduces its carbon footprint by 18% and sets its environmental strategy until 2030

The document highlights the progress made in recent years, noting an 18% reduction in the carbon footprint between 2008 and 2023. Furthermore, emissions related to land use and land-use change have been reduced by 71%, thanks to improvements in feed formulation, feed efficiency, and innovation applied throughout the supply chain.

The roadmap establishes seven major areas of work for the coming years: net carbon, air quality, water management, slurry and nutrient management, biodiversity, waste and recycling, and energy efficiency on farms.

The plan also includes periodic evaluations every five years through life cycle analysis, with the aim of ensuring transparency, monitoring and continuous improvement of the results obtained.

Sustainability and reducing environmental impact continue to consolidate themselves as one of the major strategic pillars of the international meat sector, promoting more efficient, responsible production models aligned with climate and environmental challenges.
